Road construction costs include selecting a suitable surfacing technique. Tar & Chip or chip and seal as it is sometimes referred to is a cost effective and more affordable option than other surfacing techniques and requires minimal maintenance. It is installed by pouring a layer of hot liquid tar (asphalt) over a prepared surface and then followed immediately by adding a layer of aggregate chips which adhere to the tar.
The resulting surface is resilient, it does not require any significant maintenance, also it is skid resistant and offers excellent traction, prevents water accumulation and can withstand heavy traffic.
